The Chronology out of Time: Dates in the Fiction of H. P. Lovecraft (New Edition)

$12.95

Peter Cannon: The Chronology Out of Time: Dates in the Fiction of H. P. Lovecraft. Color cover art by Jason C. Eckhardt.  Hardcover pictorial boards.  37 pages.

After years of being out of print, we're thrilled to offer a new edition of this valuable Lovecraft research tool.  A Necronomicon Press Classic, bound in hardcover pictorial boards!

The Chronology Out of Time surveys all the dates in H. P. Lovecraft’s fiction, from the death of Abdul Alhazred in 738 to the death of Robert Blake in 1935 (each, appropriately enough, at the hands—tentacles?—of a horrific entity). The main section, largely in Lovecraft’s own language, charts the events of his universe year by year, month by month, and day by day. This approach shows how some tales closely coincide in time, in particular “The Dunwich Horror” and “The Whisperer in Darkness.” In his introduction, Cannon pays tribute to Fritz Leiber, who first addressed this topic, and discusses how Lovecraft evolved and perfected his use of dates in his stories. This is an essential guide for all Lovecraftians.

Peter Cannon is the author of Pulptime (1984), a mystery novella that teams Lovecraft and Frank Belknap Long with Sherlock Holmes; Scream for Jeeves: A Parody (1994), a mash-up of Lovecraft and P. G. Wodehouse; Forever Azathoth (1999), a story collection; and The Lovecraft Chronicles (2004), a novel of alternative history in which Lovecraft lives until 1960. He is also the editor of the anthology Lovecraft Remembered (1998) and co-editor with S. T. Joshi of More Annotated H. P. Lovecraft (1999). His nonfiction includes H. P. Lovecraft (1989), a volume in Twayne’s U.S. authors series; “Sunset Terrace Imagery in Lovecraft” and Other Essays (1990); and Long Memories (1997), a memoir about his relationship with Long and Long’s wife, Lyda.
